Article marketing is essentially a free form of advertising, where you write articles of between 300 and 600 words for other bloggers, article directories, and Web sites. All the articles you write for others contain links back to your blog in your "bio”, published at the end of your article.

Once written, the business makes these articles freely available for distribution and publication in the marketplace. Each article contains a 'bio box' and 'by-line' which include references and contact information for the author's business. Well written content articles released for free distribution have the potential of gaining the author business credibility within his or her market, as well as new clients.
Essentially, article marketing is when you place well written and interesting copy on your website. You will want to put in keyword phrases that people will search for on a search engine. For example, if you own a cake decorating business in Dallas, Texas, then you want people in your area to find you so you can get more business. It is simply not enough to make a website that says "cake decorating" as this could result in thousands of websites. Instead, you need to have articles on your website with keywords that your clients are looking for such as "cake decorating in Dallas" or "unique cakes in DFW." When someone types in those words, your website will pop up, leading you to more business.
The important thing to remember when considering article marketing is content. You want the content on your site to stay relevant. That means that you need articles that are factual and interesting. If you fill your website with junk that no one finds interesting or boring, they won’t read it. Instead, they will look for a similar website that gives them what they need. Blogging on your website can also help with your traffic and can give you a boost with your article marketing.
Article Marketing works slowly and you shouldn't expect to get a load of traffic overnight. If you work at it and continue adding articles consistently, you will eventually receive a sizeable amount of free traffic.
